By targeting specific engagement groups the use of hashtags give your posts more exposure and increases your chances of going viral. FACT! People who don’t use hashtags, either don´t care about exposure or already have enough. The latter already have a high level of followers so don’t need to use hashtags to reach a wider audience.
Aim for around 27 hashtags (never more than 30). Mix them up, too. For example, 9 low, 9 medium and 9 high. If you are only using high hashtags like #love then remember there are millions of people also using the same hashtag so your post will get lost amongst those similar hashtagged posts and decrease the chances of it being seen by the wider audience you are trying to attract. MIX IT UP!
Research your hashtags – use the explore page and hashtag page to see which hashtags are being used the most and are getting the most traffic. Check influencers and other profiles in your niche to see what they are using.
Use a spreadsheet to save a list of your low, medium and high hashtags. This will save you loads of time when posting and help you keep a track of which hashtags you are using and when. You can also keep track of how effective they are with each post.
Never add hashtags to the comments section as this is ineffective and your post won’t reach its intended wider audience.
Always keep your hashtags relevant to the post, not the profile. You risk being reported, taken off the hashtag page and even shadowbanned if your hashtags aren’t specific to the content!
